At the top, these are from The Winsor Series and they are hanging at Mitzi's Sister (1554 Queen West) until January, they are on SALE for $40.00 each, head on in Kids eat free or half price on Wednesdays, double check with the server, but they used to do that, anyways, go there, big SALE of my stuff, you can link to my main blog and see it in advance.

I is for IOTA and S is for Sasquatch, here are the final two of the six letters I'd talked about earlier, scroll on down for a look at the rest. The Iota is from Dr.Seuss's "If I Ran the Zoo", there is only a shot of his head in the book so I made up the body following Seussian principles of design and of course the Sasquatch is having a great time playing in the woods with the birds, loved painting this guy.

This is the first of three pieces that are being combined with alphabet shoppe letters to make the head board for a child's bed. When assembled it will be 3 panels long, or 3 feet. by 2 ft. I think this is a fantastic idea for a kid's room. I figure if you just took some smaller blocks of wood, cut to the inside measurement of the 12 x 12 kids letter it would be sufficiently reinforced that it wouldn't rip if hit or kicked, I mean come on, we all like to jump on our bed. I'll have the other two pieces posted next week. I'm pretty sure they're going to be a dog chasing a race car and a cat in a dumptruck, but I'm still mulling it over.

Well, that's a big ol' A is for Airplane, followed by S is for Sasquatch, A is for Abominable Snowman, H is for Hippocampus and M is for Mermaid. as always letters are 12 x 12 inches, acrylic on canvas, $60.00 ea. and three for $150.00. With the above four I decided to mesh the Winsor Series, lack of border and strong blue/black outline with the standard letter size and colour, I think it turned out well, there are two more that go with this set and I'll have them finished soon.

I was feeling pretty exhausted at the end of last month and took some time to just relax in bed and do some new styles for the alphabet shoppe, I think that people are used to the "Classic" look of the alphabet block and I think doing something different would be fun. One of the world's greatest illustrators in a man named Winsor McCay, (you can wiki him yourself ) and these letters are a tribute to his fine sense of line and style.

We're going to be up to our eyeballs in new work over at "the mad craft shoppe", I hang my next show of paintings at the Cameron House on May 2nd, (the Opening Reception may be that day also, stay tuned) and have at least a dozen pieces to finish in the next three weeks so I will be unable to finish the whole alphabet this month, look for that sometime in May, but the above should give you an idea of the styles.

I hadn't done a portrait in quite awhile, I don't often advertise that I do them, usually the images I am sent are of children staring at a camera, engaged by the lens and not by the world around them. I was able to over a dozens photos of a day at the beach that these two children had and could assemble a composition that I liked and also showed the children's personalities. This wasn't the finished painting, I neglected to take a photo of it, but was very happy with the result.

This was a great idea, I'm always surprised when people come to me with a concept that I hadn't even considered. This was commissioned by a Father for his daughter's room, it's the whole family, Dad, Mom and Daughter so they are together in the child's room. This was a great commission, "Izzy" with an Asian/ Indian theme.Represented here we have an Elephant with it's trunk raised, which I believe means "good luck", an Ox as the child was born in the year of the Ox and an Asian Phoenix and a carp and Banyan tree - when I'm told what those symbols mean I will add that here.

Well, Christmas is approaching Shoppers and so is a big show of paintings at the Press Club for the month of December so I would reccomend ordering your letters for kids now as opposed to later.

Here are some odds and ends that I found on my drive that I hadn't previously published, the "H" was from a set of tools for a child's name, for some reason I only have the saw, there were hammers and a screwdriver also, but I didn't photograph them.

The rocket ships were done awhile ago as an example of some patterns - have to get back to doing some more of these.

The "C" is for Churchill was for a good friend's child whose last name is, well you get the picture.

The pterodactly was a custom for another client, there were other dinosaurs, I assume that I didn't photograph them either (whoops).

And finally the "A" was for a giveaway that I did with "High Maintenance Mom" a great blog that I'll add to the links section.
